Supporting Actor and Actress forecasts coming soon.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
This category is tough to judge. All of these women gave audiences powerful performances. Each film the nominated actress has been a part of has ranked on critics’ 2011 Top Ten lists or assumed as a guaranteed Oscar Contender. Despite this difficulty in choosing, the top contenders are this category is based on their performance that fits the HFPA’s state of mind.
There is one clear-cut winner for group but I need to get a few things out of the way. Viola Davis, Tilda Swinton, Meryl Streep and Glenn Close will not be winning any awards. As shocking as this may be, these illustrious thespians are more cut out for the Oscars and not the Globes.
And the winner (hopefully) is: Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander. This raven-haired beauty really brings this infamous character to life. Usually film adaptations of books fail in certain areas but Rooney nailed every aspect of Salander. Most awards organizations love when actors/actresses undergo a complete transformation like Ms. Mara. Rooney is also the “it-girl” of the moment right now and HFPA might actually be willing to give an award that is deserved.
